Midlothian Economic Development: Tell us a little background about AFairchild, PC.
Sharon Price: Annie founded AFairchild, PC in Carrollton in 2009 to carry on the practice she first initiated in 1992. In 2001, her largest client — with over $100 million in revenue and over 100 entities — brought her on board to work exclusively with his companies. In 2007, Annie returned to public practice as the tax director for a small, local firm in the Dallas area, overseeing the tax compliance and strategies for over 500 companies/individuals. Her expertise lies in providing tax consulting and compliance to businesses, as well as structural and transactional consulting, from startups to well-established businesses.
Midlothian Economic Development: How long have you worked with AFairchild, PC (AFPC) and what is your role?
SP: I began working for Annie on a part-time basis more than seven years ago when she still had an office in her home. She wanted to add an office on the south side of the Metroplex, so in 2015 we opened the office here in Midlothian. I have lived in Midlothian since 2006, so this was a good fit for me. There is a lot of growth in the area and I am happy to be working in the field I love so close to home.
My role at AFPC has many facets that can be expected from a small, full-service firm. As the director of the Midlothian office, I am responsible for managing the office and growing the firm in this area. I attend community events and promote firm services. I meet with potential clients requesting assistance with issues including tax, bookkeeping, startup, and general business consulting. I also direct the audit and attest services for the firm.
We have a lot of technology that allows us to do work with clients remotely. We utilize client portals, Webex, DocuSign, etc., which allows us to service clients in a variety of ways. We are also “paperless.” We utilize a lot of technology for a smaller firm.
MED: Why did you choose to open a branch office in Midlothian?
SP: We saw the growth potential. With so many homes and schools being built, it is just a matter of time before business starts to follow in that growth pattern. We are a full-service CPA firm that works with small business owners and individuals. We do everything from tax returns and attest work to consulting. These services are a great value to a growing community as entrepreneurs open new businesses and expand. We support small businesses as they grow by providing high-quality services and having knowledge of business at a larger level and the steps it takes to get there from a small starting point. We see Midlothian as a great place to be for the future. It was a friendly environment that welcomed us.
MED: How would you characterize your experience thus far in Midlothian?
SP: Our experience has been great so far. We have enjoyed getting to meet other business leaders and have felt very welcome to do business here. It is an exciting time to be a part of this business community in Midlothian.
MED: How is the rapid growth in this area supporting your practice?
SP: We have been able to grow our business here. We have found our services are a great fit for the local businesses and individuals. We have met with a lot of new entrepreneurs seeking information on starting their business and setting a solid foundation.
MED: What advice would you give to other companies considering locating to Midlothian?
SP: I would suggest that other companies considering Midlothian should meet with the Midlothian Economic Development leadership. They should also join the local Chamber of Commerce and get involved. There are lots of events that can help you meet people and grow your business.
