Under picturesque Texas skies, Methodist Health System broke ground in Midlothian on Oct. 5, 2018, on the system’s 11th hospital, Methodist Midlothian Medical Center.

Hard hats, shovels, turned dirt, cheers, and fireworks signaled the beginning of construction on the facility which will be located on 67 acres north of U.S. 287 between the Midlothian ISD multi-purpose stadium and Brookshire's. It will be Midlothian’s first acute care hospital.

The $175 million medical center will include a five-story, 44-bed, 190,000-square-foot hospital, and a three-story, 45,000-square-foot medical office building. Approximately 300 healthcare professionals and support staff are expected to be employed at the hospital by the end of its first full year of operation.

Slated to open in 2020, Methodist Midlothian will be built under the direction of project architect Corgan and general contractor DPR Construction.

“Midlothian is one of the most rapidly growing areas in the DFW region, and Methodist has long been a leader in healthcare in the Midlothian region by providing high-quality healthcare services to the residents of Midlothian and its surrounding communities,” said Dr. Stephen L. Mansfield, Ph.D, FACHE, president and CEO of Methodist Health System. “Today, we stand at the threshold of a bright future, and with the support of the community, we can reinforce Methodist’s standing as the healthcare provider and hospital of choice for future generations.”

Methodist officials have previously said that Midlothian was selected for the hospital because of its business-friendly climate, strong educational facilities, major highways, and growing population.

“Today, we make another significant milestone in history for Midlothian,” said Midlothian Mayor Bill Houston. “I applaud Methodist for both its vision and commitment to the health and well-being of our citizens.”

A rapidly rising community in southern Dallas-Fort Worth, Midlothian has undergone explosive growth in the last decade.

According to the most recent Midlothian Independent School District Q2 housing report, Midlothian currently has a population of 42,340 and a median new home price of $375,016, while the latest 2018 ESRI estimates show the community’s median household income has risen to $85,779. Continued growth is on the horizon thanks to a steady inflow of new residents, commercial development projects, and developers’ plans for 14,000+ single-family lots.

Local officials say the new Methodist Midlothian Medical Center will be a pivotal project in the upscale suburb’s ongoing evolution.

“This is truly an exciting day for the residents of Midlothian and surrounding areas,” said Larry Barnett, president and CEO of Midlothian Economic Development. “We are so grateful and honored that Methodist Health System has selected Midlothian for its 11th hospital. Methodist Midlothian Medical Center will not only provide much-needed, quality medical services to this growing region, but it will provide business growth opportunities for developers and retail operators who want to take advantage of the significantly increased daytime population this project will drive. Methodist Midlothian is a historic, catalyst project for our community and its positive ripple effects will be felt for years to come.”
