It was a warm June day in 2002 when Target turned the first shovels of dirt on a 1.35 million-square-foot distribution center in RailPort Industrial Park in Midlothian, Texas.
While Midlothian had just 8,000 residents at the time, its availability and quality of workforce served as a draw for the household-name retailer.
The distribution center officially began operations in June 2004 and has since enjoyed steady growth under the direction of Scott Gianoni, general manager of Target Distribution. Midlothian has grown, as well, and is now home to nearly 30,000 residents.
A decade after its opening, Target hosted a 10th anniversary May 2014 open house for Target team members and family at its Midlothian facility. Midlothian Mayor Bill Houston was in attendance, along with additional local officials, to show support for Target’s contributions to the local community.
Today, Target’s Midlothian distribution center boasts nearly 4 million square feet and employs 450 people, as noted in an article by the Waxahachie Daily Light.
Exemplary of the city’s collaborative efforts to attract investment, the City of Midlothian and Midlothian Economic Development offered a tax abatement incentive package that was instrumental in recruiting Target and clearly illustrated the city’s commitment toward the company’s long-term prosperity.
We congratulate Target on its success as it continues to thrive and make something great here.
