It was a strategic gathering of top industry players at the RECon 2012 Global Retail Real Estate Convention in Las Vegas from May 20-22.
Held by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the convention offered an unparalleled opportunity for community leaders to network with real estate professionals from around the world.
Larry Barnett, president of Midlothian Economic Development, attended the event, eager to share Midlothian's story and procure interest from retail investors and developers.
He noted that even though the slow economic recovery continues to make retailers and developers cautious when it comes to investing in new properties, they still continue to seek promising opportunities.
A Blank Canvas
With consistent and dramatic population growth, an award-winning school district and a high median household income ($72,951.00 per year), Midlothian shines as a community that is turning heads and garnering second looks.
"Midlothian is poised for growth going into an improving economy and some have described our city as a 'blank canvas,'" said Barnett. "The retail analysis recently completed by Catalyst Commercial identified opportunities for growth and we are moving forward to pursue the developers and retailers who can make those investments. Population growth, an excellent education system, and improving transportation corridors has and will continue to put Midlothian on the radar screen."
Barnett reports that many professionals he met with in Las Vegas were familiar with Midlothian, offered positive feedback, and were willing to discuss the community and its growth initiatives.
"There are ample opportunities for us," said Barnett. "Success will come with innovative deal-making and mitigation of risk."
