Larry Barnett, president / CEO of Midlothian Economic Development, has been named to Consultant Connect’s 2017 North America's Top 50 Economic Developers list. He was one of just seven economic developers from Texas to appear on the list.

Michigan-based Consultant Connect strives to bridge the gap between economic developers and site consultants through exclusive networking events and educational services.

According to Consultant Connect, the economic development professionals selected for the Top 50 list were nominated by their colleagues in both the economic development industry and the site consultant community for excellent practices, innovation and success in building the communities they serve.

“I am honored to be selected as one of North America’s top 50 economic developers,” said Barnett. “From day one, my goal has been to share Midlothian’s dynamic story and to serve site selectors and business prospects in the very best way possible. I truly enjoy supporting and advancing this community’s exciting evolution.”

Located just 30 miles south of Dallas-Fort Worth, Midlothian is a rapidly growing community of 36,000 known for its unique fusion of industrial history and upscale living.

Barnett became president and CEO of Midlothian Economic Development in April 2012. He brings 22 years of economic development experience to the table and has been instrumental in securing several projects, including the new Midlothian Business Park.

“After an extensive nationwide search about five years ago, Midlothian Economic Development was pleased to extend an offer to Larry Barnett to come represent Midlothian, Texas, in our economic development efforts,” said Danny Rodgers, chairman of the Midlothian Economic Development Board of Directors.  “As we look back, we see this was a terrific win-win situation for all parties. With professionalism and integrity, Larry is doing a wonderful job in Midlothian. When you discover opportunities and have the assets we have available, with a team led by Larry Barnett you have the best! Barnett also led the recruitment of California-headquartered Applied LNG to Midlothian’s RailPort Industrial Park. In November 2015, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) marketer, producer and distributor opened its Midlothian plant which marked the first LNG production facility in North Texas.

The project was a huge win for the region and ensures the availability of LNG to area high-horsepower customers interested in converting to a lower-cost, cleaner-burning fuel alternative.

"Larry is highly respected by everyone for his leadership skills, strategic vision, collaboration and breadth and depth of knowledge,” said Ed McKenna, president and CEO of Applied Natural Gas Fuels, Inc. “He provides the insight and direction required by businesses to effectively navigate and succeed in today’s highly competitive environment, while offering a friendly backstop for advice and guidance. Partnering with Larry is the closest thing to guaranteed success one can get. I am thankful and honored to call him my friend.”
