Midlothian: One of the Safest Cities in Texas

For companies on the grow and families on the move, a community’s safety record is a top concern.

While no community may ever be 100 percent crime-free, a very low crime rate is the next best thing.

For several years in a row, the North Texas town of Midlothian in Ellis County has been recognized for its safe environs.

Most recently, Midlothian garnered accolades for ranking #45 on the "The Safest Cities in Texas 2017" list produced by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

Also in recent years, BackgroundChecks.org ranked Midlothian #20 on its "Safest Cities in Texas 2016"  list and the city ranked #45 on Safewise’s "Safest Cities in Texas 2015” report.

With a population of 35,400, Midlothian is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro. In fact, as of 2015, Midlothian had seen a growth rate of 185 percent since 2000.

Yet the booming suburb has managed to retain its small-town charm and friendly character, and safety is an important component of this picture.

“In May 2015, the city of Midlothian was first recognized as one of the 50 safest cities in the state of Texas,” said Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith. “It is, without question, a blessing to be in a community that enjoys a relatively low crime rate. The absence of criminal activity enhances our citizens’ ability to enjoy visiting parks, retailers, eating at local restaurants, and attending events in our community. Living in a city with low instances of crime seems to lower anxiety about personal property and individual safety. This is extremely important to a community like Midlothian, which is growing at such a fast pace with families moving here to raise their children.”

Smith added that Midlothian’s current environment, its physical location within the DFW metroplex, as well as its geography, all contribute to the city’s lower crime rates.

But perhaps nothing has been more influential than the Midlothian Police Department’s vigilance.

“Midlothian Police Department works diligently to protect our citizens and their property through proactive efforts, including utilizing various media to keep citizens informed and alert of current situations,” said Smith. “We have a young and active police force which is committed to the service of our citizens. We see this effort as a partnership that has proven to be very successful to date. As Midlothian grows, both our citizens and officers must remain committed to proactive efforts to keep our community a great city in which to live, work and play.”

Midlothian’s evolution continues to be fueled by business development, a progressive educational system, luxury housing options and waves of new residents.

The city’s growth shows no sign of slowing anytime soon, yet Midlothian remains steadfast in its commitment to providing a secure, uncommon quality of life that welcomes the future while celebrating a rustic, rural heritage.
